William Shatner Sings 'F--k You' Before Gwyneth Paltrow Can (Video) :

A day after it was announced that Gwyneth Paltrow would sing a censored version of Cee Lo 'F--k You' on 'Glee', William Shatner took to the airwaves with his own rendition of the song.

Check out Shatner's fully bleeped-out version of 'F--k You' on 'Lopez Tonight':

Long-Delayed James Bond Film Set for November 2012

Is there a light at the end of MGM's tunnel? As part of the studio's bankruptcy filing, MGM has presented future plans for the James Bond franchise, and it seems the delayed-then-canceled Bond 23 is back on, with a hoped-for release date of November 2012. (The studio would then produce another Bond film every other year, with the intention of wholly owning those installments after going in halfsies on the next one.) Whether or not intended director Sam Mendes will return to helm a Peter Morgan script remains up in the air, however. [Bloomberg]

Spider-Man Musical Officially Delayed Until 2011

It's no longer speculation—the $60 million, unfinished musical's premiere will no longer be on December 21. It will be sometime in mid-January. (Previews were originally scheduled to begin on November 14, but the re-writing and re-doing of major scenes haven't helped.)

The economic logic of the world's most expensive musical is brutal:

The show’s advance ticket sales so far total about $8 million in hard cash with an additional $2 million to $3 million in unpaid group orders - amounts that would be healthy for the standard $10 million Broadway musical, but low against the $60 million capitalization and the likelihood that the show will cost upwards of $1 million to run each week.

Its price tag is more than double that of the previous budget record setter, the $25 million Broadway rendition of Shrek.

Industry Roundup: Ice Cube, Dirty Harry Wannabe?

Dirty Cube: Ice Cube — the same Ice Cube who was once known for writing a song titled "F**k the Police" — may be teaming up with director David O. Russell to create a franchise that is "an homage to those 70s pictures like Dirty Harry and Death Wish." Cube would "play a plainclothes detective who's quick on the trigger in an R-rated raw drama that's thematically a throwback." [Deadline]

Great Power, Responsibility: Sally Field and Martin Sheen are separately in talks to play Peter Parker's Aunt May and Uncle Ben in the 2012 movie reboot of Spider-Man. (Andrew Garfield has long been slated to play the lead.) Field is in early talks, while negotiations with Sheen are further along. [HR, HR]

Deadline Casting: The upcoming HBO show Tilda, which will star Diane Keaton as a Nikki Finke–like Hollywood reporter, added on three new executive producers after losing its show-runner, Cindy Mort, in August. The trio is anchored by Six Feet Under alum Alan Poul. Keaton will be joined on the show by Ellen Page and Jason Patric. [Deadline]

Hall Pass Trailer: Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis, Horny Dweebs

When was the last time you were truly psyched on a Farrelly Brothers movie? 2005's Fever Pitch has its fans, but you'd have to go back to 2001's Shallow Hal to find a movie that retained some of the screwball brilliance of their early hits (Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary, of course, although Kingpin will forever have the biggest piece of our hearts). Will Hall Pass break the streak? Well, at least from the trailer, it seems like casting Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as married, sexually frustrated nerds who get a “hall pass” — a one-week furlough from their relationships with attractive television actresses Jenna Fischer and Christina Appleagate — and then have no idea what to do with it was something of an inspired choice, even if Wilson is forced to wear nerdiness-connoting short-sleeve dress shirts the whole time. Bonus: Steven Merchant as their gawky pal, Richard Jenkins as a leathery skirt-chasing old-timer, and the immortal wisdom of Mrs. Joy Behar.

The New Michael Jackson Album Has a Title, Release Date

It's called Michael, it'll be out December 14, and it'll be preceded by a single, "Breaking News," that premieres Monday. So, yeah: prepare yourself to probably be hearing that a lot. [Billboard]

The Beaver Will Get a U.K. Release

Guess the U.K. hates Mel Gibson less than the cast of The Hangover does, because unlike over on this side of the Atlantic, Gibson's The Beaver has locked in a theatrical release: February 11, 2011, when it will go up against Black Swan, Just Go With It, No Strings Attached, and Yogi Bear. Mel Gibson diehards: Book your flights now! [DigitalSpy]

Judi Dench Will Be Ravished by Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Photo: Neil Mockford/Getty Images
Proving that Helen Mirren isn't the only over-60 Brit with compelling cougar credentials, Judi Dench has been cast in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, where she'll get frisky with Johnny Depp in a cameo role. Baz Bamingoye reports that Dench will play a noblewoman whose carriage Depp escapes into, and that "as he ravishes her, he manages to rob her." However, we're sure she won't mind the loss of her jewels, since the assignation will almost certainly reactivate her lusty old-lady libido, as these things are wont to do. (We minored in Old Ladies Who Say Sexually Inappropriate Things Onscreen in college, see.) [Daily Mail]

Is Zac Effron Up For The Role Of Kaneda In Akira?

Looks like he might be according to /Film. Read on, if you dare!..
Its just a rumor for the time being, but word is that Zac Effron has been offered the lead role(I assume that's Kaneda) in the upcoming live action version of the popular manga/anime, Akira. /Film's Peter Sciereta says..

I’m not able to confirm the offer, but one source tells me Efron is in talks, while another says that it is “far from a done deal.”

To be honest, if this did come to pass I wouldn't be at all surprised. It seems like this adaptation is being taken in a fairly family friendly direction indeed. The project originated at WB through Leonardo Dicaprio's Appian Way production company. Irish director Ruairhi Robinson was originally going to direct. Since then the script has gone through a few hands, and numerous rewrites. Now Albert Hughes(of The Hughes Brothers) is in the driving seat, and last we heard from him he said he wants the first movie(he doesn't know if he will even stick around for the second instalment) will be brought in at a PG13. What better way to solidify that than to bring in Zac Effron as your lead. maybe they can get Justin Bieber on board as Tetsuo?

Its Official: MJ Will Not Feature In The Spider-Man Reboot

We thought Emma Stone might be MJ, then we heard there would be two female leads, then that MJ would only have a small part etc etc. Well it now looks like our favourite smokin hot red head will not feature in Marc Webb's movie..at all.
This thing has being going back and forth ever since the reboot was announced. It was assumed that Mary Jane would be a part of the story. But then news broke that director Marc Webb was actually on the look out for 2 female leads, surely MJ and Gwen Stacy? Then that was narrowed down to one, and Emma Stone looked likely to nab the role everyone assumed was that of MJ since, despite being naturally blond, Stone has donned the red locks in most of her other roles. Well as we know, Stone will be Gwen Stacy. And we now know courtesy of The Wrap, Miss Mary Jane Watson will not be appearing at all..

..an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap that Mary Jane Watson will not appear in the film after all, as the character is not currently featured in James Vanderbilt's screenplay, and apparently never was.

Even so, word is that the original idea was to have a love triangle between MJ, Stacy and Parker but this idea was dropped. There was also talk of Stone playing MJ(which is evidently where all of the 2 female leads talk sprang from), but when she won the part of Stacy instead they decided to stick with one lady to get Parker's Spidey sense a tingling. I'm sure many will see this as a good thing. There is no need to over complicate the plot with this first movie, and there is plenty of time to bring MJ in later on. Provided they don't reboot this franchise before a sequel comes out of course..

Sally Field To Star Alongside Martin Sheen As Aunt May In Spider-Man?

The same site who broke the news that Martin Sheen will play Uncle Ben, are now claiming that the Brothers & Sisters actress is in talks for the role of Aunt May...
Previously portrayed by Rosemary Harris in the past three Sam Raimi helmed Spider-Man movies, it seems that Marc Webb is taking things in a slightly different direction by casting the younger actress (by twenty years) best known for her role in Forest Gump and more recently in ABC's Brothers & Sisters. Here's what the site had to say:

"Sally Field as Aunt May?"

"The actress is in early talks to play Peter Parker’s beloved aunt in the new Spider-Man movie, which Marc Webb is directing for Columbia."

What do you think about this? Is she a good choice to star alongside Martin Sheen? And does the fact that they've gone for a younger actress hint at things being a little more "Ultimate" in the upcoming reboot? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

[comicbookmovie]

Martin Sheen Set To Play Uncle Ben In Spider-Man

Apparently veteran actor Martin Sheen is in final negotiations to play Uncle Ben in Columbia’s new Spider-Man movie...
According to a Hollywood Reporter exclusive, Sheen is close to finalizing a deal to sign on as Uncle Ben, who's death is the catalyst for Peter Parker to start to take his new found powers seriously in the comics. The character was previously played by Oscar winner Cliff Robertson in Sam Raimi's movies.

Sheen, repped by ICM, is a veteran of the screen, having appeared in over 100 movies since 1967. He can be seen at the moment in The Way, which is directed by his son Emilio Estevez. He joins Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as The Lizard(though that has yet to be confirmed).

The Spider-Man reboot will be directed by Marc Webb and will be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.

First Look at Bloodrayne: The Third Reich Sales Art!

Yes its time for another Bloodrayne movie and this one has Nazi's in a war-torn World War II setting, just like the actual game had...
Years removed from the original vamp movie, the sexy red headed sword-swinging vampire is back and ready to splash more blood.

Rayne (Natassia Malthe) fights against the Nazis in Europe during World War II, encountering Ekart Brand, a Nazi leader whose target is to inject Adolf Hitler with Rayne's blood in an attempt to transform him into a dhampir and attain immortality.

The third film in directors Uwe Boll's trilogy will begin shooting next year in January. Produced also by Boll and also Dan Clarke, written by Michael Nachoff.

Bloodrayne: The Third Reich:

LEEE777 - First movie was in medieval times which was an enjoyable romp then a not so good Old West sequel that didn't go down well. Now fans of the game will finally get that World War II setting that they have been wishing for, that hopefully Captain America will be getting too. Bloodrayne: The Third Reich could be the best one yet!

An insider on location in Caerwent, Wales has been in touch with some amazing pictures of a HUGE explosion, a tank and a close up look at the HYDRA symbol as well as some new details on the filming taking place there...
Thanks to our inside man (who wishes to remain anonymous) located within the former RAF base in Wales, we have not only our first decent look at the set, but also some fantastic shots of a huge explosion and more HYDRA vehicles! He/she also informs me that it's only actually a second unit filming extras and stunts at the location and none of the Captain America: The First Avenger stars are currently expected to attend. Filming has now moved down to Aldershot, England for more interior/exterior shots.

Louis Leterrier Weighs in On Edward Norton's Avengers Exit & Joss Whedon Directorship

The Incredible Hulk director reveals not only that hatred of replacing actors, referring to Ed Norton's "Hulk' departure, but also praises Marvel choosing Joss Whedon for The Avengers.
Chatting with MTV's Rick Marshall a few weeks ago, before appearing at the Long Beach Comic-con, Louis Leterrier, The Incredible Hulk director, shared his thoughts the public 'Hulk' departure with Edward Norton. He also talks a bit on Marvel choosing Mark Ruffalo & Joss Whedon for The Avengers.

"It's funny, because I speak to Edward often and I speak to the Marvel guys often," Leterrier told MTV News. "I'm like you in that I don't know what happened there."

"Last time I talked to them about [directing] 'Avengers,' I didn't get the job and I knew it — because I was finishing 'Clash' and they needed to move forward," he added. "When I didn't get the job, I told Kevin Feige, 'You should definitely get Edward in the movie — he's fantastic and he brought so much to it!' And Kevin said, 'Yup, we're talking to him.'"

"So the talks were going on, and I thought, 'Great, this will happen,'" he explained. "I really don't know what happened in the end. In all honesty, I leave it between them."

"Joss Whedon is absolutely fantastic, and so is Mark Ruffalo," he said, only to offer up a more candid assessment from the perspective of a fan of comic book movies, not a filmmaker. "I like the continuity as a fan when I go to see these movies, so as a fan, I don't like it when actors get changed — especially when they're that good."

Industry Roundup: Miley, P.I.

Undercover Sister: Miley Cyrus is going to be an action star. Well, action-comedy, at least. She has signed up to star in Undercover, where she "will play a tough, street-smart private eye hired by the FBI to go undercover in a college sorority." Allan Loeb (Wall Street 2) co-wrote the script, and Tom Vaughan will direct. Production begins in December. [Deadline]

Off to the Races: Joan Allen is taking a chance on Luck, the upcoming HBO show about horse racing, "the owners, gamblers, jockeys and industry players." David Milch and Michael Mann (Miami Blue? NYPD Vice?) are collaborating on the show. Allan will play "a woman who runs a program that uses prison inmates to care for broken-down racehorses." [Deadline]

Neo-Factism: HBO has signed off for a pilot of Documental, a comedy set in London by Tropic Thunder co-writer Justin Theroux and British comedy god Steve Coogan. It will feature "Theroux as a documentary filmmaker who tracks down his idol, an equally inept filmmaker (Coogan), and documents his return to his craft." Ben Stiller (Another Thunder alum!) will exec produce. [Deadline]

Party at USA: USA, the most-watched basic-cable network of all time, is stocking up on even more pilots. They are all dramas involving wealthy people, big cities, and vice. There's Eden, which "is about a young hotel worker who, with the help of his escaped con artist cousin Eddie, gets a job as the concierge at an elite NYC hotel"; then there's Over/Under, about a Wall Street hotshot with a gambling problem who loses his job and moves with his wife "to a neighborhood on the cusp of gentrification" where he "finds an unlikely partner and starts to turn his life around in an unexpected way"; finally, there's Wild Card, which is a procedural about two lawyers based in Vegas. [HR]

RUMOR: Cyclops Might Just Be In X-Men: First Class After All!

A cryptic tweet from Mark Millar has revealed that the character WILL appear in the Matthew Vaughn directed movie, and he'll be played by a former Hannah Montana star...
Fans have been dismayed by the apparent absence of original X-Men like Cyclops and Jean Grey in X-Men:first Class, but a tweet from comic book writer Mark Millar (who of course worked with Matthew Vaughn on the movie adaptation of Kick-Ass) has revealed that we might just see him after all!

"Text from Vaughn about X-Men set visit. Family excited not because it's X-Men but coz wee guy from Hannah Montanna is Cyclops! Dare I say?"

I'm not sure what to think about this one. Could this just be Millar pulling our leg, or has he genuinely let slip a fairly big piece of news? With Scott's younger brother Alex, aka Havok, in the movie it's not hard to believe Fox will play with continuity to give the character a small role.

The other question is of course, who is this Hannah Montana actor? After checking out IMDb, there are literally dozens to choose from, any of whom could easily pull off the look of a young Scott Summers. What do you think? Any ideas as to who it might be? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Zack Snyder - "My Superman will be different"

Zack Snyder has stated that his Superman movie will be "different" from previous Man of Steel films, there will be no General Zod and its too early to say if the film will follow Supermans early years...

It seems that Zack Snyder has taken a leaf out his producer Chris Nolan's book when it comes to giving cryptic answers. He has even gone as far as to rule out a villain as Nolan did just last week.

Digital Spy reports on an interview with Empire:

"It's a different story," Snyder said. "I won't say there's a break from the canon or anything like that, but there is definitely an approach that makes you go, 'Okay, that's a way to get at it.'"

He continued: "David is very respectful of the canon and stuff like that. It has its roots in the canon and again, like I say, it has a point of view about who he is. I'm being cryptic, I know, but it's the best I can do."

Asked if his movie will track the Man of Steel's early years, Snyder replied: "I think it's early to say. I don't know."

The director also described rumours of the comic book hero facing General Zod as "just wrong", adding that "the internet has no idea what's going on".

Seems that the early years story line has just been well and truly blown out the water. Also, I can't help but be slightly offended that 'we have no idea what's going on', he is right - but I still don't like being told that!

See the article on Digital Spy here.

Bond 23 for November 2012?

MGM may have filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday, but according to Commanderbond.net, it hasn't derailed plans for the next James Bond movie, with 007 expected to return to theatres in November 2012.
Reports Commanderbond.net, "It’s not set in stone, but MGM has announced that new James Bond films starting with Bond 23 may be released every second year starting in November 2012. Right now MGM is only wanting to own 50 percent of Bond 23 with an equal partner paying all of the production costs. Further 007 adventures would be wholly owned and funded by MGM... Still unknown is whether MGM plans to continue to distribute the James Bond films. Much speculation has been made saying they won’t which could open a battlefront for distribution rights to the lucrative series. Columbia Pictures, Warner Bros, Fox, and Paramount are said to already be in contention."

Naturally the studio will have to go through the bankruptcy process before definite plans settle out.

Mike White Top Choice To Direct Pride And Prejudice And Zombies?

The School Of Rock writer and co-star Mike White is reportedly in the lead to direct the big screen adaption of Pride And Prejudice And Zombies.

The LA Times is reporting that writer/director Mike White is the first on a list of candidates rumored to be the possible director for the adaption Seth Grahame-Smith graphic novel. Mike White has written several movies, notably comedies starring Jack Black such as Orange County, The School of Rock, and Nacho Libre as well as episodes of Freaks And Geeks and Dawson’s Creek. White has only directed one movie-2007s Year Of The Dog, a black comedy starring Molly Shannon.

White is by no means locked into the project as of now and reports state that another director, reported as being less likely to direct, Matt Reeves may also have a shot at directing the project. Matt Reeves has directed horror films such as the remake of Let The Right One In which was retitled Let Me In and Cloverfield.

Original director David O. Russell, director of Flirting with Disaster, left the project last month to focus on a movie adaption of the video game Drake's Fortune.

Reports state that the folks over at Lionsgate are keen to get this film out after the success of AMC's The Walking Dead pilot proved that people will still watch anything with zombies.

Silent Hill Sequel Has a Director And The Official Title

The sequel to the Silent Hill movie has found it's director plus the official title and a short plot synopsis have also been revealed. Check it out!

In 2006, we saw the first big screen adaptation of the popular video game franchise Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans. The film was a mediocre box office success earning around $100 million dollars. Now, four years later the sequel is moving forward.

Shock Till You Drop reports:

"Still on the American Film Market news beat, Shock has learned that Michael J. Bassett is sitting in the director's chair on Silent Hill 2."

Basset is best known for directing Solomon Kane and Death Watch

The site also reports that the official title for the sequel is Silent Hill: Revelations and that it will be in 3D.

And finally, here is the short plot synopsis:

It focuses on a protagonist named Heather Mason who, on the eve of her 18th birthday, is plagued by nightmares and now has to investigate the disappearance of her father.

Aaron Eckhart On Possibly Reprising His Role As Two Face In The Dark Knight Rises

Its a possibility, but the actor is doubtful he will be back in Chris Nolan's threequel..
This isn't exactly news. We have heard from Eckhart before on whether he might return or not. But since Nolan revealed the title for his third Batman movie, and said that we would be seeing some old faces, fresh rumors have been swirling that one of those old faces might be scarred down one side. Yes, Nolan has said he was dead, Eckhart has said he was dead, we saw his funeral, he was dead. But, that being said, I, and many others, don't believe things were left without the possibility of his return if Nolan so wished.

Speaking to ShowbizSpy, Eckhart was asked if he knew anything about Harvey Dent's possible resurrection..

“I’m not privy to these things, I just feel like with the death of Heath Ledger, I feel like maybe starting over might be a better thing.

“I just don’t have any idea. I really don’t know and if Chris gives me a call, I’ll come but I don’t anticipate a call.”

Has Pre-Production On The Avengers Been Delayed Due To Budget Issues?

According to Bleeding Cool, Marvel are planning on giving the movie a relatively low budget resulting in pre-production being delayed by weeks or even months...
Here are some highlights from their report. No source is given for where this information came from, so it might be worth taking it with a pinch of salt for the time being!

"Marvel are demanding that it all get done on the relative cheap. For something not far off what Sony paid to make their first Spider-Man film back in 2004."

"And while some people have walked off, others are planning a longer game. Basically do the work, then when they run out of budget (which they believe they will) trust that Marvel Studios and their investors will pony up the extra necessary cash rather than leave the movie unfinished."

"As a result of such staff changes, pre-production has been delayed weeks – possibly months."

Details On The New Thundercats Animated Series

We haven't heard much from this in a while, but now thanks to MTV and show producer Michael Jelenic, we have some new details..

Thundercats are incredibly, almost inexplicably popular. Don't get me wrong, I loved it too. Had all the action figures etc. But I think its amazing how the love for the show has endured all these years. So when a new animated show was announced, people(after they expressed their disappointment that it wasn't a live action movie we were getting!) were very excited indeed.

The new show's producer Michael Jelenic dropped by MTV and revealed some interesting stuff. He says that the term "reimagining" will only refer to a bit of tinkering with the mythology. Jelenic says they plan to simplify things a little..

"It's a pretty complicated backstory that borrows from a lot of other sci-fi stuff, like Superman and Star Wars. In developing this, I wanted it to be a little more simple. In the other version, there's something like three different planets involved, and they all converge onto one planet, and nobody's really connected. I just wanted to bring that all together. It's reimagined in that way, but at the same time, we're going to see the characters that we love,"

Awesome! Panthro, Tygra, Cheetarah..Snarf. Yes folks, Liono's annoying nurse maid is back..

"Everyone always wants to know about Snarf, He will be in it, and he will not talk. Don't worry. He won't be going, 'Lion-O, why don't you do this? We just having him say, 'Snarf! Snarf!' That's a way to get him in the show without annoying every single person who hates him. It's funny, because people are always like, 'I hate Snarf! Wait. you're not going to put him in? That's terrible!'"

I'm glad Snarf is in, but also glad he'l be mute! So what can we expect from the animation style, and the new look of the characters?

"I think when people see the final character designs, people will think it's a different take, but it will feel very familiar to the old series. The colors aren't quite as bright as they were. I's a little darker take, but you'll recognize everybody."

"We have some great artists [on 'Thundercats'], We're using a very famous Japanese animation studio, Studio4C, which did 'The Animatrix.' They're going to have their signature stuff on it. It's going to be pretty epic."

Great stuff. I still want a live action movie though:(

Is Jessica Alba Replacing Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow in The Avengers Movie?

Is the actress who played Nancy Callahan in Sin City and Sue Storm in Fantastic Four suiting up to play the Black Widow in The Avengers?

Actress Jessica Alba was recently captured on film wearing a slinky catsuit very reminiscent of Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow costume from Iron Man 2. Is Alba, who has already played Nancy Callahan in Sin City and Sue Storm in Fantastic Four, suiting up to play another comic book character, possibly replacing Johansson as the Black Widow in The Avengers? Scroll down to see the pics and find out the answer...

The answer is no, Alba will not be replacing Johannson in The Avengers. These pics were snapped on the set of her new movie, Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World.

Lionsgate Picks Up The Rights For Dredd

Lionsgate today announced that they have picked up the U.S. distribution rights for IM Global's Dredd, reported by Variety.

Lionsgate films have picked up the distribution rights for the 2000AD comic book character Judge Dredd, titled simply Dredd as well as two other films as yet, not known.

"Dredd starts production on November 12 in Cape Town, South Africa and will be filmed in 3D. It will be directed by Pete Travis and has a budget of $45 million.

The movie takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary.

Alex Garland wrote the Dredd script based on John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's comic strip."

Lionsgate did really well with its recent Stallone release The Expendables and its looking to capitalise on this with Pete Travis' Dredd, Boaz Yakin's Safe and Simon West's Protection.

Bill Maher: "If It Was a Real Joint ... I Would Have Smoked It"

He went on Wolf Blitzer's CNN show to discuss whether or not Zach Galifianakis smoked pot on his show. "I think it was cloves or something," he said, adding "Zach's crazy, he's not that crazy." Maher's probably obligated to tell CNN it was fake (also—cloves? really?), but the fact remains that he still didn't smoke. But, yeah, we still think it was real. [CNN]

Industry Roundup: DiCaprio Is The Devil in the White City

Chi-Town Murders: Leonardo DiCaprio is going to play the legendary nineteenth-century Chicago serial killer Dr. HH Holmes in the movie adaptation of the Erik Larson nonfiction best seller The Devil in the White City. DiCaprio and Jennifer Killoran, his partner in Appian Way, his production company, teamed up with Double Features to buy the rights. It takes place in the shadow of the 1893 World's Fair of Chicago. [Deadline]

Baby's Got a Brand-New Dad: The Australian actor Joel Edgerton will play the male lead opposite Jennifer Garner in The Odd Life of Timothy Green, the Pete Hedges–directed fable about a child-prodigy musician. Edgerton and Garner will play a childless couple who "bury all their wishes for a baby in a box in their backyard." The script is by Ahmet Zappa. Edgerton, a relative unknown, takes a role that was previously associated with names like Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix (!). [HR]

The Commish-ette: Mark Gordon, the producer of dramas like Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and Criminal Minds, has signed a deal with ABC to make a drama about a female New York City police commissioner. It's called One Police Plaza, and Linda Fairstein, the mystery novelist and former chief of the Manhattan DA"s sex-crimes unit, will be one of the writers. [Deadline]

That's Not a Dealbreaker, Ladies: Remember the short-lived Liz Lemon show Dealbreakers? Well, that has nothing to do with Dealbreaker, the comedy based on a blog that ABC just picked up. It does mean that in a world where $#*! My Dad Says is a breakout star, coming from the Internet is not a, well, you know. [Deadline]

Dark Ball: Paramount bought a movie pitch from Alan Ball (True Blood, Six Feet Under, America Beauty). There aren't many details, but the project, which Ball will direct and Elan Mastai will write, is a (surprise!) "dark comedy with a twist." [Deadline]

Sex and the City Show-Runner Michael Patrick King Shops a Top-Secret New Show

It's been five years since Sex and the City show-runner Michael Patrick King last created a TV series (Lisa Kudrow's regrettably short-lived HBO half-hour The Comeback). He's spent most of his time recently in the feature world, writing and directing the two SATC films and putting together the recently revealed Oprah-Meryl-Sandy comedy showcase. But now Vulture has learned that King is ready to make his small-screen comeback, turning in a spec pilot script for a new series that's just landed in the hands of network executives.

King has been personally delivering the top-secret script to honchos. But rather than offering up a lavish pitch outlining the idea, he and his reps at Creative Artists Agency have taken a low-key sales approach, telling suits his new show is something that's totally not on TV right now and asking that they read the spec themselves to find out what it's about, a person familiar with the meetings told us. Not wanting to reveal details of the project before it finds a home, our spies stubbornly refused to tell us just what the show's about. But here's one hint: The working title may include the lead character's last name, apparently Mann (A Mann's World, perhaps?).

Anticipation for King's new project among network types has been growing for weeks, with small-screen suits telling Vulture all the way back in September that they were expecting something soon from the scribe. Nobody may be happier about the King spec than Warner Bros. TV chief Peter Roth, who signed King to a hefty overall deal last spring. At the time, it was assumed King would simply oversee other writers and lend his name to projects as an executive producer; a King-penned script would be a major win for the studio. In any case, Warners is being very tight-lipped about the King project: Vulture has asked the studio about it twice in the past two weeks, with no response each time; however, assuming the networks spark to King's new idea, expect plenty of information to start leaking out about it soon.

With all the recent casting announcements you would think Peter Jackson would lock down the only cast member to return to Middle Earth from the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy other then Gollum!

This from Broadwayworld.com:

"PC: Are you involved in THE HOBBIT?

IM: I am not under contract, no.

PC: Have you had any meetings?

IM: I'm not going to say any more than that because it might complicate things! So, I would say - at the moment - no, I am not under contract.

PC: Is it OK for me to then take that as a "Yes" with a "but..."?

IM: Laughs. I'm not saying any more than what I've said! Laughs."

Make it happen already. Peter Jackson needs Ian to help bridge the gap between the 'Lord Of The Rings' and 'The Hobbit'. Could 'The Hobbit' work with out Ian McKellen? No, I don't think that it could.

Peter Jackson get off your duff and get Ian McKellen signed now!

'The Hobbit' currently stars James Nesbitt, newcomer Adam Brown, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage (Captain America: The First Avenger), Aidan Turner (Being Human), Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders), Graham McTavish (Secretariat), John Callen (TV’s Power Rangers Jungle Fury), Stephen Hunter (All Saints), Mark Hadlow (King Kong), Peter Hambleton (The Strip)and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

Silent Hill 2 Being Shopped Around Hollywood!

Which studio will pick it up?

Bloody-Disgusting has obtained information that says while attending the American Film Market, Lionsgate International will begin pre-sales on "Silent Hill 2," the sequel to the 2006 video game adaptation from director Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf).

A sequel was planned ever since the 2006 original hit, and hit big. With a budget of 50 million the first Silent Hill raked in over 100 million, so yeah a sequel is planned. Unfortunately, for the horror moviefranchise, movement with the sequel fell silent (see what I did there:) after Writer Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction) crashed his car in 2008 while driving drunk, killing his close friend and seriously injuring his wife. Avery was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and did a year in the hole.

Avery was released in August and has since finished the script. Radha Mitchell has expressed interest in returning for the sequel but has not signed the dotted line making it official yet.

Robert Zemeckis Passed on Superman:The Man of Steel

Robert Zemeckis says he passed on Superman:the Man of Steel "faster than a speeding bullet".
Before it was announced that Zach Snyder would helm the upcoming Superman:The Man of Steel there were numerous directors rumored to be connected with the film. Robert Zemeckis was among the list of rumored directors considering the job. MTV had the opportunity to ask him about the rumor.

"I passed on that faster than a speeding bullet."

You must have read that on the internet," he said of the rumors. "Don't trust everything you read on the internet! Isn't everything true on the internet?"

"When they asked if I wanted to make the, what is it, seventeenth version of 'Superman,' I said, 'No, I don't think so.'"

Full Tintin Image Revealed

Empire have unveiled their world exclusive first look at Stephen Spielberg and Peter Jackson's Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn, with shots of the boy himself, his dog Snowy and Captain Haddock..

Empire also have some words from Jackson and Spielberg..

“With live action you’re going to have actors pretending to be Captain Haddock and Tintin,” says Peter Jackson. “You’d be casting people to look like them. It’s not really going to feel like the Tintin Hergé drew. It’s going to be somewhat different. With CGI we can bring Hergé’s world to life, keep the stylised caricatured faces, keep everything looking like Hergé’s artwork, but make it photo-real.”

Says Stephen Spielberg, “The first part of the film, which is the most mysterious part, certainly owes much to not only film noir but the whole German Brechtian theatre — some of our night scenes and our action scenes are very contrasty. But at the same time the movie is a hell of an adventure.”

Jamie Bell will provide the voice of Tintin, Andy Serkis Captain Haddock and the film also stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as the Thompson twins, and Daniel Craig as Red Rackham. It also features Cary Elwes, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook and Daniel Mays.
